About the role.
The VP Engineering Practice will lead and manage engineering teams delivering high-quality data and software solutions on a modern cloud data platform. The role drives technical excellence, mentors senior engineers and aligns technical decisions with business and regulatory objectives. You will lead a multiyear platform simplification initiative, coordinating engineering delivery, roadmap planning and stakeholder management. This is a hybrid position based in Pune.
What you will do.
- Lead large-scale data engineering initiatives on modern cloud data platforms, delivering resilient, governed and audit-ready data products
- Own end-to-end data delivery across ingestion, transformation, quality, lineage and consumption, with accountability for reliability, SLAs and production stability
- Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritisation to deliver solutions within scope, time and budget
- Drive adoption of standardised engineering practices (SDLC, CI/CD, controls, documentation) across multiple teams and portfolios
- Partner with product, risk, technology control and business stakeholders to shape data strategy and translate business and regulatory outcomes into scalable architectures
- Mentor senior engineers, conduct performance reviews and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture
- Enforce technology standards, facilitate peer reviews and implement robust testing practices
- Lead the engineering and delivery of multiyear platform simplification initiatives, including roadmap and stakeholder management
What you bring.
- 15 to 22 years of experience in engineering, with significant leadership of large-scale data engineering initiatives
- Hands-on expertise in DBT, Databricks and Airflow
- Experience managing Databricks estates, with specific expertise in Unity Catalog, Delta Lake and Databricks data quality
- Exposure to Ab Initio, Oracle and AWS technologies
- Understanding of the cards ecosystem
- Deep expertise in Python and SQL, with experience building and governing complex transformation pipelines at scale
- Strong understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage and observability, institutionalised as platform capabilities
- Experience defining engineering standards and architectural guardrails across lakehouse or cloud-native data platforms
- Proven ability to coach senior engineers and drive engineering excellence in a federated enterprise model
- Strong risk and controls mindset, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
