About the role.
This is a permanent Senior Mainframe Developer role based in Bengaluru, focused on designing, building and maintaining reliable COBOL applications for Windows desktop environments. You will work closely with developers and business teams to deliver practical, high-quality solutions within a small, versatile team. The role also offers the opportunity to explore how AI tools can improve productivity, testing and automation in legacy systems.
What you will do.
- Design, build and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable COBOL code for Windows desktop applications
- Identify, diagnose and resolve bugs using strong debugging skills
- Maintain code quality, structure and organisation across the codebase
- Collaborate with developers and business teams to agree on the best possible solutions
- Contribute across a range of tasks as part of a small, flexible team
- Use source control systems and agile practices to deliver work reliably
- Leverage AI-assisted coding and debugging tools to improve productivity and code review
- Support documentation and optimisation of applications using AI-driven utilities
What you bring.
- 7+ years of experience developing and maintaining COBOL applications
- 4+ years developing and maintaining Micro Focus COBOL applications
- Deep experience with both back-end and front-end programming in Micro Focus COBOL
- Strong problem-solving skills and a drive to extend your own knowledge base
- Understanding of source control systems and practices
- Experience with agile development practices
- Experience with Pervasive / Actian database
- General knowledge of Windows software installation systems
- Knowledge of GAP accounting practices
- Exposure to AI tools and frameworks, such as Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude, and an awareness of ethical AI practices and data privacy
